I work as a flooring specialist and I have DIY customers all the time. Basement floors included for people who want to save money and have an easy time of it. Epoxy floors are a great option and you can get as creative as you like. It's also easy to keep clean and you don't have to worry about a moldy carpet.

if epoxy is done properly, it’s incredibly durable. It’s also recommended for your garage floor if you’re looking to have something other then bare concrete.

It is funny how this is popular again. My grandmother here in Sweden did this to here concrete outside steps into the house in the 80-ies. Exactly the same color and black and white flakes
