I love Jayce as a character but I know that heās hated because despite his big talk and conviction, heās very easily swayed. His opinions are based on whoever talked to him last and most of his mistake can only be attributed to himself. Other characters at least have the grace of blaming their shortcomings on their trauma. Even when Silco abuses his power and kills people, he knows what the repercussions are and is actively choosing it. (Not that Iām defending Silco. I just understand peopleās mindsets)

i honestly only hated him for how he treated Victor. It's been a while since I've seen the show, but a scene i remember left me heartbroken was something along the lines of Jayce saying they can't trust someone, Victor asks why, he replies "because they're from the underground*." and the reply "*im from the underground." broke me

Jayce in actual LOL lore might be a part of it, Jayce in actual lore does take all of viktor's fame for himself as well as Samwick in LOL lore, Jayce also killed tons of civilians Viktor was trying to save through a misunderstanding, Jayce was praised a hero after that in piltover while Viktor kept augmenting himself in zaun

He's actively responsible for a lot of the bad things that happen to people. Not actively as in, he's not going around being an ass or anything but he doesn't think things through and his inability to plan ahead or even think of the consequences of his actions.
Heimer says don't do magic, and he pushes it. His experiments lead to more disparity between Piltover and Zaun, which leads to the ending with Jinx. He's a prime example of man failing upward while also being willing to corrupt himself with backroom deals. He's set out as this paragon, but by the end of the series he's just as bad as the people he stood against and actively pulling up the ladder behind him.

He's very easily manipulated, and rash. In some shows or canons, that would be a bad thing. But in a show as good as Arcane, I trust. And besides, a sympathetic, misguided hero becoming a true villain by the end is gold. I don't hate the Eren Yeagers of fiction, I'm just wary of them in case they turn out to be (Cristensen's and Lucas') Anakin Skywalker.
Edit: To be clear, it's unlcear if that's where he's headed, but it would be neat, and a logical extension of his ark with ties to his LOL lore.

I love Jayce as a character because he's really interesting. I think people dont like him because he's a sell out.
He basically gives into the councils will and starts playing political games, sort of looses sight of why he was doing all of it in the first place.
I think at the heart of his character, he's a good person, but hes easily swayed by others and is a bit naive.
I mean he thought hextech didn't need safeguards until Heimer told him it was dangerous.

Jayce got a shitton of responsibility put on him really fast, some of which he didn't even ask for. The reason he is impulsive and do something one way, then a completely different way is because he is being influenced by all the other characters (Mel, Viktor, Cait, Vi, the council, Mel's mom, etc.). He has no idea how to solve a crisis like this, he has no experience, he just tries to listen to his own morality and what seems best at the time, resulting in failing most of the time.
Meanwhile he abandons his role as a scientist and innovator, with that also not having enough time to support or help Viktor as much as he wants to.
He seems like a jerk (which based on league lore he is, but cmon most old characters' lore is two paragraphs that riot obviously did not plan to dwelve on later), especially on the first watch, but his character makes total sense if we view the story, and in a sense it's very human for him to change this way.
Arcane has the most incredibly written characters, without exception.

Jayce for season 1 and even some of season 2 is completely spineless. Not crazy about the path Viktor takes but at least heās pursuing it. Jayce is doing a dance with fate the entirety of the show. I can appreciate the evil characters like Silco bc they think what they are doing is right, Jayce is wrong and knows it most of the time but impulsively heāll do the wrong thing and then back up just to do something else just as stupid.

I feel like some of the hate was created because of the hidden fact that some people kind of baby Viktor, the mischaracterisations and watering down characters or hiding character traits or actions such as silco poisoning the undercity with shimmer or the council literally not caring if the undercity is gone or not, most people don't understand Jayce's complexity because of how he acts upon it; the main reason he was so determined to do so with the crystals is because it quite literally saved him from death and seeing his own mom die
For another example:
Now some people are saying Maddie is evil for a footage leak when there are characters who deserve somewhat of hate or all the hate like the enforcer who made a deal with silco, if it wasn't for him vander, claggor, mylo and other characters probbaly would have been alive or atleast have more screen time but because he doesn't have more or even near enough screen time like jayce to be hated on; qualified as an ignored character

The main reason people hate him is because none of the things we are supposed to know about him as a character are consistent enough to actually represent his character. Some shows have a character that just does whatever needs doing to allow the rest of the characters to have a story and that's what Jayce is to Arcane.

I donāt hate Jace. Honestly what annoyed me is that a lot of things he just doesnāt think through. But I know itās to help his character develop
