I love how you used a dovetail explanation of the swirly scratch. I couldn’t think of how to explain it. That’s good. It basically bonds from all parts of the plaster to prevent cracking

Also if you wiggle your stratch coat if water gets behind if will run down and not sit in side a straight line scratch

Plus wiggly lines add more surface area

More stuff to stick to = it will stick more

Also a wiggle scratch is more of a key as the lines are longer 😉

By far , my favorite new channel on you tube for straight to the point and hands on demonstration of getting it done. A brilliant teacher and educator. Thanks kirk👍.

I usually wait for it to pick up enough to use a 2ft soft broom to key. then use the scratcher.
key within a key (lovely)

Horizontal and vertical scratching is what they taught in college all about pushing the air out as you apply it also for a key ,I've never scratched both ways but each to their own

Great content bud
I always do wavy for render , but when I am pebble dashing I keep it straight so the weight of stones does slump , as it might in a wave scratch😊

You need to brush it it makes a huge difference, especially dry dashing but it’s definitely better for all plaster finish, yard brush or something similar and comb .

There is water proffer in that scratch. Will hold water. Only an untrained, of the shovel plasterer will scretch like this.

Horizontal then vertical in my world, vertical always after horizontal to let the water run off when you wet it 👍
