So true. Add to this, here are the top of the line fully outfitted bikes that marketing says I need and here are the bikes I actually need for my style of riding. Would I like to have a Tiger 1200 sure but the Tiger Sport 660 with a few accessories is all I actually need. As the saying goes, the money you don't spend on the bike is the money that goes toward the adventure.

Not a bad message! Especially if a motorcycle is entertainment for you. I would say you can stretch your budget if you are using it for transportation. For example, I am looking for a bike that will handle the commute, and touring... an all arounder. I want all the electronic tech for the commute, so I may have to stretch my budget. No debt on the bike though. My first bike was an old Suzuki GS400. 2000 bucks, looked and ran great. You can get into the moto lifestyle for fairly cheap.

Trying to avoid going into (more) debt is why I'm still riding my '07 V Star 1300. Long paid for, and it's quick, fast, nimble (for a cruiser), gets good fuel economy, is reliable, and quite comfortable. To get a new machine that works better for on-road duty would set me back a minimum of 20 grand American...just not worth it.

If you may die on it, then it should be exactly what you want. Of all the things in life to settle for, motorcycle or car are not one of them. I will not settle for a bike I am not 100% pleased with. Motorcycle debt doesn’t count as debt. Now I don’t mean go out and put yourself $30,000 in debt so you can ride a brand new Ducati multistrata
But you can be riding a preowned multistrada that’s 10 years old for $6000 you deserve to be happy on your two’s
