I could swear the 172 was only fixed gear? I am a fan of the 182RG since that one has retractable gear, hence the "RG" in the name. I have never seen a 172 with retractable gear.
Update:
For those reading this, I was unaware of an RG version of the 172, only the 182. However, there is indeed a 172RG version as several people have responded with. I suppose they weren't as common as the 182RG.

I was taught that if your hands arn't filthy after a walk-around, "you've probably not done it properly". At a training school - who had very shiny aircraft - I'd try and wobble the wheels on that day's C152. The mechanics found this hilarious, and every morning they'd take the mickey out of me for doing so. On about the 6th day or this I did this and discovered a completely shot main wheel-bearing everyone else, including the mechanics had missed. I was highly delighted to see some of them checking every wheel in every aircraft in the fleet an hour or so later. The following morning the "peanut-gallery" no longer took the mickey!

Lot of people won't believe they built an aerobatics version of the 150 either, but they did. The Aerobat had a cool checkerboard on the top of the wing. My favorite was the 180 Skywagon. Dream was a 195.
Dad worked at the Pawnee plant for 20 years, retired and moved to Texas with Windecker Aircraft.

The instructor did a great job landing that plane and saving both their lives. Hats off to him!
