so much to takeaway from this clip, but, the 3 main things that stood out to me were:

1. Crazy width in his corkscrew before the punch, then immediately gets narrow during the turn.

🔥 Benefits of getting in a wide corkscrew before a punch turn

1️⃣ Adds an element of puck protection if a defender is on your back

2️⃣ Adds a deceptive element, as it almost hides for a second which foot you’re going to punch with

3️⃣ Allows you to have automatic mass displacement to turn tighter and faster!

2. Heel pressure on both his inside and outside edge before rocking all the way to the toe for the crossunder exit

More on heel pressure ➡️    • MAXIMIZE Grip, agility and control wi...

3. Ankle collapse on the first stride out

👀 Notice how his ankle collapses in as soon as it hits the ice and he has this “break” in his ankle. That allows him to spring off that first step!

⛸️ Most players think that “bending” your ankles is bad, but the fact is the best players bend their ankles! Bending your ankles is not something to avoid and fear, but something to leverage.

If you put pressure on the heel of the foot the direction you're turning, the left on this video, your skate will start bouncing.

few questions. when you're doing heel turn, you're loosing speed. and also you're not able to push hard with the inside leg to start acceleration early and in general in this moment you're off balance. I don't think its a good technique. And why would you need to collapse the ankle? Energy transfer from the push is suffering. Not needed.
