Honestly if someone casts Armageddon without saving their own lands or haviny some combo to win is worse than them using it to win as part of a combo. Cause if they win the game is done and if they just go "cast Armageddon lol" and no one counters it and then pass the game takes for ever. I have less issue with ruination and single land destruction as it generally gets rid of problem lands like cabal coffers or gaea's cradle

It's those people who Armageddon turn 4 without a plan. Then everyone is stuck in the game for another 3 hours. Just use mass land destruction as a finisher to your games.

If you mass land destroy and save your own lands, the tables i play at at least will just scoop the game there. We all agree thats a win con and theres no need to play it out. Now Armageddoning without a win con, that shits awful and ill scoop to not waste time.

As someone coming from a yugioh background the idea of something being called "fair" just because its reciprocal is insane. You don't play reciprocal cards unless they hurt the opponent more than they hurt you. Its the opposite of playing fair.

with the power creep, pretty much anything that you have to turn actual land sideways for, that doesnt end the game on the spot, is somewhere between "fair" and "unplayable"

wasteland type land destruction is actually super necessary, i learned that the hard way in a control mirror match where they were superfriends degen and i was just running no combo zacapa. i eventually actually won on resources almost, bc i teched for everything else. but i didnt have fucking land destruction and the prick ran maze lands so i could never get through and then he would inevitable draw one of thirty board wipes. i eventually lost to that frustrating crap because i just got stalemated and i drew more cards early on. after that game i added three land killer lands and approach of the second sun

Actually a great example, it's why I likew the more modern "transform a non basic land into a basic" solution. It is counter play for decks that spread their mana base to thin but most players will get a land back. It's a great way to keep those damn man-lands in check as well.
Another is discard, it's a good tool to control combo decks and other decks that need very specific cards, I think that discard should always be casters choice AND be one for one. The reward of discard is getting rid of the opponent's best card, not anything else.

I have a fun mass land destruction deck that’s gruul. It’s lead by borborygmos enraged and I essentially double mana until I can destroy all lands then bring them from graveyard to hand to win

Someone in our group of 5 has a card that destroys all other player none land permanents, AND HE CONPLAINS SO MUCH ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE!

With the new cowboy extension, counterspell is now deemed a crime since it target a spell, it is then not fair to play it
