Spend all that time on a custom resume then to have to complete the same info again when filling out the application! I hate looking for a job!!! Im coming up to three years in my current job. Im thinking of interviewing for better salary and growing but looking for another's job is another job!

This is true in the era of ATS career websites that job seekers submit resumes on. It's like writing a research paper trying to incorporate key words so the ATS picks your resume. Learned the hard way during the 2008-2015 great recession/jobless recovery, if you don't use key words, recruiters won't see your resume. Unfair for sure, especially if you don't have a PC/laptop, harder to format a resume correctly on a smartphone. That said, Brian has said utilizing LinkedIn can often get better results without the long resume writing process.

Itâs not necessary for every job, but depending on what the posting entails would determine if you need to cater your resume to that Iâd say. For instance, 1 sales position might require âoutside salesâ xp where you may not have that specific xp. In this case, I wouldnât be too direct because that could be something used against you.

I think it's still a good idea to check if your generic resume is close enough to each job in terms of key words. You might be already a super close match with the job posting and not need to do updates. But maybe for a different job posting you'll notice some tailoring is needed. Ideally, if you're already applying for jobs very aligned with your previous experience there won't be too much editing needed.

Great advice! Customizing resumes takes way too long for every position. It is a numbers game. I would say maybe select 1 special job every day to make a custom resume for and then do a little bit of spray and pray and then mostly focusing on networking, linked in, reaching out to former colleagues, and doing informational interviews or just orbiting people you want to network with. I have been in a job hunt for over a year and did so many custom resumes and finally just got an offer - it was from a person who is a former co worker. We didnât know each other directly but he had a friend at our previous job who I worked with directly so he knows how hard of a worker I am. I still had to go through 4 rounds of interviews and do a few test projects for free, but ultimately, I noticed that there was a typo on my resume that I submitted for this role and I still got the job. If you have a âfoot in the doorâ with the recruiter like itâs a friend of a friend or a referral, 99.9% of the time they arenât even really looking at your resume. So like this video says, find the balance.

So the job market sucks, you'll be lucky to get 1 interview in 50 job applications sent, and you still have to "customize" your resume in order to get a first interview? And we're considering that all the 50 jobs are real (not some fake, resume gather BS).
This screams big waste of time, because inbound applicants have a very low chance of success anyway, so this is basically a losing investment.

Iâd recommend to create various types of resumes (maybe 5-7 due to the industry and how much it can differentiate) and just choose the best one to each position.
e.g. youâre looking a job in marketing - create several versions of CV linked to digital marketing, data analytics, product manager and so on
And you may just change the name of a particular file that you send to a vacancy.
I also have blanks for covering letter, FAQ and other stuff and it saves me a decent amount of time. I just customize it a bit due to demanded responsibilities and skills, but if I feel like thereâs a weak chance of succeeding I donât even bother too much and may just send my standard prepared answers
Hope this tip will save you some time too! â¤

No one has time for that, save it once as a PDF and send it, too many jobs out there to be wasting time piece meal each job, way more available jobs out there vs number of applicants seeking those jobs. also this video means someone would be applying for a job that their current and resume does not match or fit well, and yeah that's a general problem, I've never updated a custom resume per job because I'm applying for jobs across my general skill set and experience. Had I been applying for jobs that I had little to no experience for, then yeah the resume would not reflect the job.

So itâs okay for employers to mass send âbased on your profile we think youâll be a good fitâ messages, but we have to spend hours customizing our resumes just to be seen? I know employers think weâd be at the mercy of them the moment they reach out to us, but we can get just as annoyed with them not reading our profiles as they would be with our generic resumes. Just saying.

The question i would like answered is what does customising your CV actually mean? I suggest most of us know that our competencies and capabilities should align with the role description, but my question is should you copy exact phrases and sentences from the Role Description into your CV? I am sure many of us have utilised free ATS software, only to find that your CV receives a low score because you have repeated the phrase or word frequently. I am a management consultant who specialises in sales and Omni channel transformation, so I find I am using a thesaurus dictionary to find different words and phrases for "sales strategy" for example.

My hot take is this: Only customize your resume for your tier 1 jobs/companies on your list. The other applications where your less of a match, just use your standard resume. It's truly a numbers game. Id get barely any applications off as im in a job search while working 50 hours a week at my current job, if I customized my resume for every single random job application I come across. Job applications are pretty much lottery tickets now anyway so the more you play (more apps/greater odds) the more you win.
