I remember seeing this recipe on Ritz boxes when I was a kid. It was called mock apple pie. Yes, I'm old. 😁

When I grew up in the 1940s and 1950s when there was rationing (some places until 1954) and lots of shortages, Ritz Cracker pie was often a desert especially during the Winter months when fresh apples were hard to find. There were other companies that made crackers like Ritz that were more often used because they were cheaper and more locally made which saved shipping. Shipping was limited during those years.

I have made this pie, and it is very tasty, and very heavy on the carbs, obviously. I did not care for the Ritz streusel topping, but prefer a regular flour, butter, sugar streusel.

Someones older sibling had made Mock Apple Pie in Home EC and made it again for their family, so us kids were able to try it. It actually tastes just like apple pie and was delicious. I remember looking forward to middle school because of Home EC and being disappointed they stopped cooking by the time i got there. Maybe I'll make some this weekend and heal my inner 12yr old.

I made this many years ago as an experiment using the recipe from the back of the Ritz box, Mock Apple Pie. My mind was blown and my family totally agreed! It truly looks and tastes like real apple pie.

My mother-in-law used to make that recipe years ago, mostly just to see if we could guess what it was made of. She would also make an apple pie out of zucchinis, both tasted just like apple pie and boy was it delicious❤❤❤
Another pi she used to make with vinegar pie when she had no lemons, equally as tasty❤❤❤

My mom used to make this in the 60s when I was a kid. I could never tell the difference in the Ritz mock apple pie and real apple pie. I still make it today.
