Also important to know is to aim at the base of the fire.

Many fires have taken houses because people aimed at the center of the flame.

You are the only chef I have ever watched that has ever talked about kitchen safety like this and I just want to applaud you so much and thank you for sharing this amazing knowledge and I hope this video reaches thousands of people so everyone can help to prevent these dangers from happening! Reminder for my fellow disabled folks. There are accesible fire extinguishers if grip or weight is a problem, and fire blankets are always good to have!

Remember guys, if it's a grease fire; NEVER USE WATER! & It's always good to have fire extinguishers for different types (or most common types) of fires; Grease, Electrical, wood, paper, chemical, etc...

The only chef online I've EVER seen talk about this critically important subject. Most people live in blocks of flats: doesn't it freak people out to imagine what their drunk or just careless neighbours get up to in their kitchens?! How many inexperienced young cooks/cooks in general really know what to do if an oil pan catches fire etc?! Most will panic and I dread to think of the avoidable but tragic outcome. Unreal that these tips aren't offered more repetitiously online. They ought to be drummed in to everybody's coconut. Thanks Jose!

As someone who works in Life Safety Fire Sprinklers. This is an excellent source of information. Always keep an extinguisher in your kitchen, yes its messy, yes it sucks to clean up, yes it stinks. Better that, than your home & loved ones.

Jose, I know that was a tremendous mess to clean up, so THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, for accurately demonstrating the P.A.S.S. method. Lots of people have fire extinguishers and have never given a second thought on how they should be used in an emergency.

ALSO if you have a GREASE FIRE, do NOT throw water on it because it will EXPLODE. Turn off the heat, do NOT move the pan, and place a lid over it. If this does not work, take a kitchen rag, wet it and RING IT OUT until its only damp, then place it over the pot/pan. Please be safe yall

another psa, if you ever have a grease fire in your kitchen DO NOT use a red fire extinguisher. The chemicals in it will only make it worse. Typically in commercial kitchens we keep a K fire extinguisher, which is silver.

Love this video.. it should be shown in schools, honestly. My mom was a teen when she had me, so there was a lot she never learned about safety that I never knew until I was an adult. Because of that, I actually did set our kitchen on fire (fortunately, not too badly) when I was alone at home as a 12 year old, cooking myself dinner, because I tried to use water to douse the fire in the pan. Educational content like this is truly life-saving.
