Actually, the shroud deception was only for three years! They showed up about 3 years before Odysseus’ arrival (3-5, I don’t remember) and Penelope tricked them for three years with the shroud until one of the maids told them about what she was doing

If this story can live this long, so can my "unreal" expectations of love. If Odysseus can remain true to his wife for 10 years(in the original myth) and his wife can do the same regardless of pressures on this WOMAN(who let's be honest. Queens were still victims of the patriarchy) to move on and choose another man to take control, if she can raise her son ALONE to be someone that resembles the man she loves based off of mere memory, then maybe we all have a chance at love like this.
