Production and set design are literally part of filmmaking…. why would she think it’s discounting her filmmaking to call out specific aspects of her filmmaking that we admire? That’s like a director not wanting to discuss the editing in their films…. Films are a multifaceted art form

What I always think is such a testament to her skill is that all her kitchens are so incredibly different -reflecting the character they represent perfectly …while simultaneously also being instantly recognizable as Myers’ work.

-& I think that that is the true draw for those obsessive fans: not just the opulence of a Myers kitchen (or even what that metaphorically represents -that richness and abundance of that character’s “heart”, because the kitchen is the heart-center of the home) but specifically our own deep desire to be seen in that way.

She gets at, what I think, is one of our collective deepest desires: to be truly seen as our best selves -both aesthetically and for our best qualities.

(I mean, it also begs examining that we’re so into seeing these women as kitchens…)

I hope that makes sense! -it’s been bouncing around in my head as I’ve listened to your podcasts ☺️
