I used to work at a pizza delivery joint. Had a driver get into an accident and the first thing he told the lady he hit was "I hit you. It was my fault. I'm giving you my insurance info so you can get taken care of. If you tell them I'm delivering a pizza they will not pay you. I'm on my way home from work. Got it?"

In NJ, if you're driving for a rideshare company in your personal car and hit someone, it won't be considered a private passenger auto but we have law that Uber or Lyft extend coverage. Lyft is Liberty Mutual and Uber is Progressive right now, and if they have a passenger have to extend 1.5 million in liability coverage.

Also pay on time, every time.
Always check with your carrier, but generally, using your vehicle to meet clients, and even transporting them without pay (for instance, picking a client up at their office to get lunch or coffee) does not require commercial endorsement. Same with having product literature or other non-chemical, non-hazardous business-related items in your vehicle. Always double check, though.

Someone chased me down and rammed into me on the highway last year, and his insurance dragged it out for so long and eventually told me that they werenāt going to cover it because of a commercial coverage issue. I donāt remember the exact wording, but they said that he wasnāt using his vehicle in a manner consistent with his policy or something. So I had to go through my own insurance. Luckily, because it counted as āuninsured motorist,ā I didnāt have to pay a single dime out of pocket, but it was a weird situation

For Rideshare, this is how I understand it:
- Uber/etc. covers you when a customer is in the car.
- Uber MIGHT cover you en route to get a passenger (after accepting a trip). Can't remember for sure.
- Uber DOES NOT cover you while you're waiting for a trip, and neither does your insurance. You NEED to pay for "gap insurance" through your insurer to cover that gap, or else you're uninsured.
