I grew up in the 70s. I remember my Grandma taking me to the drive-in to see Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla on Monster Island (G vs Gigan), and Godzilla vs the Bionic Monster (G vs MechaG). She'd climb into the backseat and sleep while I watched them.
When I was 13, one of the drive-ins had an all night Godzilla-thon and they agreed to take me/let me go. It was two of the new ones, Destroy All Monsters, and G vs the Thing (Mothra v G). I was so excited and started calling. I couldn't get one friend to go with me.

This is absolutely correct. I have now Toku friends now than I ever did when the Heisei and Millenium films came out. I remember watching GMK on Sci-fi channel in the early 2000s and talking about it at school but no one knew what I was talking about. Tbh i think this goes for most stuff I watched.

Ah yes, the ‘98 Iguana who got insta-killed by a couple of jet missles can totally beat an atomic breathing steamroller so powerful, that he was only ever killed by a prototype doomsday weapon or his own atomic heart going through a meltdown
‘98 Zilla even got whomped by his own Son, whose more like classic Godzilla in almost every other aspect so much, including battling and beating other monsters, that defeating his own father was just a Tuesday

Back in the early 90s, I first got introduced to Godzilla from the Hanna Barbara cartoons, then I owned a VHS copy of Godzilla vs Megalon. Was a fan but as a kid, i wasn’t aware of how big Godzilla was in Japan. I started really getting into G films in my teen year, which made me into a bigger fan.

This hits home. I was often laughed at when I said I loved Godzilla but that was their loss. Now, G fans are standing tall
