Any tips on training a dog to not be afraid of loud noises? My dog is a hunting dog and has always been afraid of thunder and fireworks, but now she’s also suddenly gun shy and shakes and pants uncontrollably when she hears thunder.

The only way to truly tire out my Labrador is to let him play with the even higher energy dog from across the street. She wears him out after and hour of running around and playing.

I think there's a balance. If you end up taking the dog out twice a day at the same times every day you, you end up drilling that schedule into your dog and they get 'wired' at those times each time with excitement waiting for that time. Personally, I take my dog out regularly, but on my schedule and sometimes i miss a walk. That way i am in control and not the dog. The dog gets the exercise it needs, but on my terms. And sometimes, they don't go out and its not the end of the world for them. Seems to work well and i don't end up not enjoying the walks because it isn't regimented.
