My concern is battery degradation in the long term.

I don't count hybrids from BYD as EVs

Not all are pure EVs they including hybrid vehicles

Today charging reminds me when I tried downloading an MP3 back in the day. The difference in speed reminded me of download speed evolution. Hopefully one day charging will be like that

If you believe this is real I have a battery technology that will charge to 1,000% in 30 seconds for sale.

Who wouldn’t want faster charging?

It seems to me that there will be a lot more heat generated which raises the risk of a fire when you charge this fast. Some type of battery cooling system may also be required. But the technology keeps getting better and better which in itself is a good thing. They'll figure it out.

I would love to see this exact test done with the current model x. The current mode x should get 50 miles more range and charge more than twice as fast as this old p90D. Plus there are 10x as more super charges now compared to 2016.

Nice concept. No idea what ultrafast charging will do to battery or if it even works. Invite sold journalists, takem them on 400km. drives, and let's hear if they could do it twice in a row.
Then we can discuss deployment.

The battery may be able to charge at 1000 KW but there are no chargers with that kind of output. The charging cable would have to be extremely thick and heavy to handle that kind of current.

Exciting, but worry about the degradation of the battery chemistry over the expedited charging speeds. Like the bullet train when first made creating sonic waves on the outlet of the tunnel.

BYD has 100,000 engineers alone working on R & D more than many company's have total employees and the results are these crazy leading edge specifications on charging performance of their latest EVs, truly spectacular. The rest of the world is far behind them in battery tech.

I want to see this technology used long term before I have an opinion. What does this do to battery degradation over time

@KitsTech

That’s definitely going to degrade the battery very fast.

Why isn’t BYD telling us how long the battery will last due to severe degradation?

It is cool technology. But I don't know if we will see it in the U.S. anytime soon. Plus it requires the superfast DC chargers, and BYD to be imported, tariff-free. Plus we don't know how super fast charging will affect battery life.

BYD does have two big advantages of being in Communist China. If they do well the government supports them (on the other hand if they don’t meet expectations they get shut down) and people don’t commit terrorism against their cars because they don’t like the CEO.

Well it sounds great but when would this kind of infrastructure be put in place. Based on what I see in Canada, that will take another 5 years. Mostly here is 150kw whereas my Hyundai Ionic6 could use 350kw now but there aren’t any that I can find!!
