I believe the reverse is also true. Being a producer helps you be a more useful musician. If you've ever performed the role of producer, no matter how humble, if you've ever put together a piece of music in a DAW and had to deal with the fact that bass guitar seems to be strong on its own but it disappears when you bring the keyboards in, or that the only way you can hear the vocals clearly is if you turn the rhythm guitar part down to the point where it's no longer serving its intended purpose, if you've agonised over these sorts of problems until you found solutions, you will be a much more useful musician, no matter what instrument you're playing. Your objective will no longer be to make yourself as noticeable as possible. You will start to see the piece of music as a whole, and to see your role as part of a team. If you're playing guitar, that might mean thinning out your guitar sound, playing staccato instead of sustained chords, or even staying quiet for a while, so that something that needs focus has enough space to be heard. If you're playing keys, it might mean playing a three-finger triad instead of massive chords. If you're the drummer, it might mean closing your hi-hat or cutting out the snare-drum ghost-notes. Experience as a producer, whether it be in a big studio or in a bedroom on a laptop, definitely makes you a more useful musician.

This is a dream come true! It is absolutely amazing to see both of my music mentours talking with each other about musicianship, writing, and production. Hopefully a full video to follow? God bless you both, and thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with us and for inspiring us to become better at music...
Just realized this is an old video. Can't believe I missed it before. Lol
