Not only that, but you could also say that basically all martial arts that are older then 100 years are considered fakes, because they are now different then they were when they came being...
Fun Fact: Someone invented the rarely used move of not-getting-hit in boxing... before he came up with it, every boxer would just stand around and hit each other, until one of them was down. They just took the hits and then someone though "wait a minute, why do I let him hit me in the first place?"

A lot of what Mr. White said rings true. Why wasn't Shaolin kungfu modernized when China invented gunpowder?
The Samurais modernized in order to survive as long as they did. But you mean to tell me that the fighting monks managed to survive without modern weaponry? They would've, and probably have, been destroyed by modern fighters.

You should check out the philosophical "problem" called the Ship of Theseus.
It's about "renovating" as you put it, where a single piece of the ship is being replaced by a new one, again and again, and you're asked is it still the original ship? The answer being yes, it's just one piece, or one more piece.
It gets to the point where all the parts are replaced and then you use all the original parts to build another ship. Now you have two ships and the question is which is the original.

it's natural that a place with hundred years of teaching martial arts made enough students that there would be enough knowledge to rebuild the temple and teach kung fu just like it did before.
