I had a brake chamber completely fall off on me in a packer. Scary seeing that 120 psi fall to 0 in one stop

The truck I learnt in lost PSI like crazy, you could hear it hissing all the time. My instructor said "yeah it'll be fine worst comes to worst we just stop suddenly"

The diaphragm can be replaced it costs about 8 dollars. And takes an hour to replace by yourself.

Also need to check the qr valve as well. To rule it out crimp the brake chamber supply line to see if it stops.

Apply trailer brake and listening for leaks and watch the gauge, part of pre trip and post trip, that would tell you if it's truck or trailer

On that particular one it's probably the service diaphragm and you can cage it, open it up and replace just that rubber diaphragm instead of the whole chamber.

I had a swift blow a tire in the westbound while i was in the eastbound. The tread flew up and across 3 lanes of highway and perfectly landed in front of my front rear axle, ripping my brake chamber off. Almost got brought to a stop in the middle of a constructuon zone, so i just forced the truck to drag a few hundred feet till i got to a shoulder i could pull off onto.

Here in brazil, we put the "chicken foot" bolts on and isolate the lines from the drums that start leaking one by one until either we have the money to fix or the truck "does the L" (jacknife)

Would you recommend replacing the brake chamber or the diaphragm?

I miss the time when people used to work on their own stuff

I typically inspect the diaphragm on that side of the chamber before I recommend a new chamber. If it was on the non-Mechanical side definitely a new chamber.

The real magic is when your on your own trying to chase these types of problems. Normally my helper Jack Stand will jump in the cab and do the foot work for me.
