And this isn’t meant to be clickbait. But it is meant to share a scientific principle that all parents should know about, and it’s this:

When someone claims that a supplement “totally worked for their kids” that could be true, but it could also be placebo, luck, or a hundred other reasons.

So say you try a supplement because someone claimed it worked for their kids… and then it doesn’t work for you— it’s actually very likely that it didn’t actually work for them either.

Supplements can be helpful in certain circumstances, 100%! But I hate for you to spend your money when people make things sound like they can cure or prevent something that they can’t.

Colostrum is the perfect example of this. We don’t have good research behind the vast majority of the claims people make about colostrum. But say colostrum company “A” reaches out to influencer mom. A tells influencer mom, “we conducted our own study and colostrum helps with x, y, and z!” They don’t tell influencer mom that it was an extremely poorly designed study that proved nothing. But then A tells influencer mom, “we will pay you thousands of dollars to share this with your audience!” And influencer mom says ok well they wouldn’t lie about what it does, right, so I’d be helping people, I should share about it!

Colostrum company A takes advantage of this trust in their “research” because they want to sell their product. And they don’t even need to prove to the FDA or anyone that their supplement does what they claim it does.

The supplement industry is SO SCREWED UP guys! Everyone always wants to blame the government for our food not being better quality but the supplement industry is worth over $150 billion in the US (according to a recent study, PMID: 37571258) and a lot of it is based on lies.
