This is such a beautiful description of how I feel.
I have quite a few model locomotives now, build up over time. But my first two started with my dad when I was just a little boy, a B12 Holden and an MSLR 0-4-0. The B12 no longer works and needs a new cog inside it, but I can remember that thing going round and round for days on end making the chuffing noise from the sand paper underneath the tender. It takes me back to a simpler time. When train sets probably cost you about £100 max and locomotives were probably about £30 or £40.
