In high season, rates are at their peak! Car rentals are jacked, accommodation is at its highest, tours cost more, and even food is more expensive. That is why we do not travel during peak season!

We like to travel in shoulder season because it is cheaper, the weather is generally still really good, and there are less people.

In shoulder season you get great discounts on accommodation and transportation, and you can barter on activities. Flights are usually half the price too. I do a lot of cost videos and people are always saying how my costs are wrong. But the truth is, we do not travel in high season when rates are high, we usually always go in shoulder season. For example, a hotel that costs $200 in high season will usually cost about $125 in low season.

The other main benefit of travelling off season is that you do not have to plan transportation and accommodation in advance. In high season you do not have the flexibility to change plans because things get booked out, so we love that we do not have to plan in advance.

If you want to be really cheap, you can travel in off season, but we find it is not worth risking super bad weather on our travels. You can get hit with tropical storms or full on rainy and cold days!
