Many years ago I met David Prowse when I was a cook at a restaurant in the children's hospital. He came there to sign autographs for the kids. He stopped at the restaurant to get something to eat and I went out to meet him and get his autograph. He signed it 'David Prowse the real Darth Vader'. I didn't understand at the time why he had signed it that way. He seemed like a nice guy. I was amazed at how tall he was.

It's odd in retrospect because whenever I see those clips of Prowse in the Vader costume without the helmet I think 'it's crazy how he kind of looks like an older Hayden'. I think he looks quite good.

I know this story: a Alec Guiness good friend, Sebastian Shaw, was struggling for lack of money. He (sir Alec) asked to George a small role for his friend. David Prowse wasn't an actor, he tried Vader death lines but George didn't like it so he decided to hire a real actor (Shaw) for the role.
This is what I know about it.

There's a banned fan made film that has Prowse redoing that death scene. Only a few people have seen it at a private showing. It was right before he died in real life

I agree with him. This was a big mistake and an early weird decision from Lucas. Prowse had a heroic but dark face (he looked like a Vader) and could pass as Luke and Leia's father. Oddly, he resembled Christensen and Driver. No idea why Lucas went with Shaw whose head shape was wrong and who phoned in his lines.

Prowse gave away the Empire ending before Empire came out on the red carpet of London premiere...since then, Lucas couldn't trust Prowse....this is why he had to shoot Jedis ending soo secretly.....

He had no gravitas to his voice like so many great British actors do. So many play great heroes and villains. He was not one of them, but they could have at least used his face after all that hammy finger wagging and physicality he used to portray Vader.

I met Prowse in person. He looked regal, royal, like an Imperial. He was Vader. Sebastian Shaw looked like a potato, ruined the entire trilogy.
