Science cannot explain the existence of consciousness. Where does it come from? Your inner mind, your thoughts, your imagination and your awareness of existence. It isnt a physical, chemical or biological process, it isnt a property of matter, and it cant be observed, measured or explained.

According to Angelo Stagnaro, "science can’t account for the existence of our self-evident consciousness without admitting the existence in us of an immaterial (i.e., non-physical) soul — our very identify as a being with consciousness....It doesn’t fit the materialistic model. Nor can evolution explain it. Since evolution didn’t provide us with consciousness, we must look elsewhere for its origin. As nothing natural produced our consciousness, we must look outside of nature, something supernatural, for answers. Thus, our consciousness is the most direct proof of the existence of our soul and of God, the Creator of our soul, our inner self."

Athiest Michael Lockwood admits "the very existence of consciousness seems to me to be a standing demonstration of the explanatory limitations of contemporary physical science. On the assumption that some form of materialism is nevertheless true, we have only to introspect in order to recognize that our present understanding of matter is itself radically deficient. Consciousness remains for us, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, what it was for Newton at the dawn of the eighteenth century: an occult power that lies beyond the pool of illumination that physical theory casts on the world we inhabit."
