My mom: so, what do we do? She needs assistance! "Well, we could give her a non descript diagnosis that will only cause confusion for her and the world." My mom: will it get her the help she needs? "Welllll, sort of. She'll excel when she gets the help so no one will believe she actually needs it, so she'll be removed from assistance. Then she'll start to fail. So you'll have to argue with her school to get her back in the programs. This constant back and forth will cause disruption in her life and start building resentment towards her from everyone around her. And no one will believe her. But, sure I guess it'll help "

So, what did I get diagnosed with? Unclassified learning disability.

Yup. And my mom, despite knowing everything else, flip flopped between supporting my needs and shaming me over them. So, now, all my mental health providers think it's anxiety on its own. But refuse to consider I have anxiety BECAUSE I went undiagnosed, misdiagnosed and didn't get the support I actually needed. And despite my evals all pointing to audhd, no one believes me. And I'm still over here drowning.

"Ok, but, your head is still above water. So you aren't actually drowning. Us giving you a life preserve would only take it away from someone who's actively drowning. And if you stop trying or actively drowning, we're not going to believe you and think you're just faking it to get attention."
