This sort of thing is harder to happen with younger folks past a certain age, if they get enough socializing and have experience dating and romance and maturity.
But it is more likely to happen to someone who is very immature, irresponsible, and gives into their whims and already have existing societal problems in real life.
Alcohol may not make someone kind into a violence person as depicted in fiction, but it will sort of unleash the person's real self if they lived their entire life lying to themselves and to others. It takes a lot more effort to plan every single gesture, word, and facial expression to trick everyone into believing a specific persona, and alcohol basically loosens that mask.
Korean and Japanese society for instance, you are 'expected' to portray a role to public image or public order, you cannot stick out. So this sort of thing isn't a myth had society not pressured it's population into bottling up emotions and stress to the breaking point. It's more likely that people will give into suicidal thoughts when drunk than a lustful desire though.
