How to check insulation resistance in a non RCD consumer unit.

Steps:

1: turn off main switch
2: turn off all MCBs / circuit breaker devices
3: turn off all loads on the circuit you are working.
4: Disconnect all appliances and remove their plugs if possible.
5: set your multifunction tester e.g. Megger or fluke to meausure insulation resistance.
6: check between phase and cpc at 500 volt.
7: check between Neutral and cpc at 500 volt.
8: check between phase and neutral at 250Volt or lower to first ensure that there is no connected load.
9: Don’t perform step no.8 on any sensitive circuit or usb load.
10: satisfactory insulation resistance values should be above 1 Mega Ohms.
11: Any insulation resistance value below 1 Mega Ohms should be further investigated.
12: in case you are carrying out an EICR, any lower insulation resistance value will result in a C2 or FI codes.
