I have two points about things thay are generally taught in youtube videos, websites and writing groups, that I would like to challenge.
1. Prologues, why are they so frowned upon? Personally, I love a good prologue, it sets the mood for the story, gives us a taste of things to come, an introduction the overpowered character the hero needs to stop, introduces us to the plot and the world the writer imagined. They make me want to read on to find out how what was in the prologue was either relevent or how the dilemma we are introduced to within them is resolved.
2. Adverbs. I started reading The Wheel Of Time, and the first few pages are full of them. As is the first few pages of a second book I've started "Young Samurai" because I was bored at work and it just heppened to be in my bag. Again, they are everywhere in the first few chapters. Why are we advised against things that are in books that are selling? I have avoided adverbs like the plague, I feel like I should add some when I finish and get to my editting phase.
