My players are deeply suspicious of NPCs. But the lore? It is frankly alarming how trusting they can be. I'm sure after this campaign they'll have learned that lesson 😂

I’ve seen this going both ways:
- The DM is kinda obsessed with tricking the players. This is wrong, as makes no sense that everyone is hostile to people they just met or are trying to help them, and the “surprise” gets obvious after a while and can ruin a story.
- The DM builds a DM-PC and assumes the players will trust them with no good reason.
All these problems stand from the DM not building characters properly, tbh

I heard a story about a party who refused to believe that an npc could possibly lie or just be wrong, and they got pretty upset when it happened
