Floridian here: That turtle knew where it was going. Although you might not have been aware of any “water sources” doesn’t mean there was not one around.
If you find a turtle in the road, the most you should do is help it continue across safely in the direction it was already going.
By driving that turtle to some other random location, you’ve put it into unfamiliar territory, possibly separated a mother from her young, and stressed it to the point that it can suffer ill effects.
