Whether Molly Malone was an actual person is still up for debate. Some speculate that she may have been a woman who died in Dublin during the 1690s, but with no clear evidence, we are simply left to wonder.

Today, she exists more as a figure of Irish folklore and has become one of the most well-known symbols of Dublin.

She is best known through the song “Sweet Molly Malone” (also referred to as “Cockles and Mussels” or “In Dublin's Fair City”).

There seems to be a trend of touching inappropriate parts of statues for good luck. I’m inclined to call bullshit on that particular superstition

I’ve seen this statue in person. It’s a shame that a work of art is treated so demeaningly.

If I die of the cold and someone builds a statue of me, then people proceeds to touch my ass until it's polished, I will haunt every single one of them for generations and I will be known as the most vengeful spirit in Hell I'm not even kidding

This is the second or third time I've seen something about a statue being used this way. Even worse one was on a grave I believe. And it wasn't just the chest. So sickening 🤢

Her right hand is also a different shade from the rest of the statue, which means that even when most people can only see the statue as an object of projection, some people know that this statue was once a person as well.

Why is it that when touching a statue for luck its always the private parts???

Cities should start putting these kinds of statues behind bars so people can’t touch them. Like polish it, close it off, and be done with that nonsense.

Why is touching a chest believed as good luck? I don’t see that doing anything.
