London has always been dodgy, particularly around the tourist areas. Watch your valuables carefully. Rest of the country you'll be fine 99% of the time.

I honestly thought this was an everywhere problem. Even in small town Kentucky, USA we've had issues with the skimmers, mainly on gas station pumps.

You can get faraday shields for your cards, too. And shielded wallets. There's been a problem with hacked cash machines here in the UK for a while now.

I got mine skimmed I think in York, fortunately it wasnt my main account it was a card I load as and when required, think Chase, Revolut etc. I actually got my money back anyway from the card provider and I was able to change the card number too, but I only ever load it £50 to £100 a time so worst case scenario is that I'd lise £100. Sorry Joey😞

Thanks for keeping the word out. I was afraid yall were in a more serious situation, given current events. BUT, important nonetheless.

Yes unfortunately here in the UK at ATMs there's quite often a device that fits over where you put your card in, looks like the original, skims your card as you insert it (passing through to the actual ATM) and has a little camera built in that send video to someone stood close by...

I ordered one of those RFID blocking wallets from Amazon before my last trip to Europe. Get one!

Traveling during 2020, I made this mistake also. Middle of the night, unfamiliar place, half a continent away in the rain, some very lovely person placed a skimmer on a CC pad and I just wanted gas

UK Resident, and Camden metaller here, ALWAYS COVER YOUR PIN

And check the reader isn't rigged up too (if the reader feels loose, its rigged)

Yep, look out for skimmers on ATMs and eftpos terminals. If the keypad or slot look a little dodgy back away smartly. The false stick on keypads record your pin number.

Damn, what a bummer! I'm guessing it's a debit card situation instead of a credit card? I recall coming home after a trip to NYC with a couple 'unapproved' charges. I'm 99% sure it was when I bought tickets to an event over the unsecure hotel network. Electronic theft is rampant and that's why I only use a credit card (aka the never-never) when traveling. Visa has never denied an 'unauthorized' claim, and my wife and I have, frustratingly, had many over the years.

Check the pinpad for overlay. Targets add a whole face cover.

Sorry that happened in England. London can be risky and tourists will get targeted. Again, apologies for that happening to you and I hope it doesn’t put you off returning. The north of the country is far friendlier ;)

Jesus, that sucks, man! I’m the worst about that, too (live in the Pacific Northwest). Sorry, Joey. 🙁🫶
