2 things. Claire famously did not get along with Leo on the set of Romeo + Juliet and I don't think that movie would have done as well without Kate Winslet.
Literally no one on earth else could have been Rose. Claire Danes is pretty - don't get me wrong. Kate Winslet has that 'old world' beauty that modern Americans often lack. Kate Winslet made the Edwardian period come to life in that film.

Claire has been great in what she’s been in, and the same is true for Kate. I don’t see them as interchangeable for the most part. Maybe they could have switched roles in Brokedown Palace or Hideous Kinky, but Kate would have been so wrong for My So Called Life and Claire wasn’t quite right for Titanic. Things ended up the way should have.

Woah I can imagine her as Rose (I saw her as Juliet) 😅 but the rumour said she didn't get along with Leo on set. Personally Kate was perfect as Rose, I think she was more gorgeous and I like her body, I mean she's so sexy 😅 plus Kate and Leo got along so well, she could handle it and she really did a great job. Fun Fact: Natalie Portman was originally chosen for the role of Juliet. However, she was only 13 at the time of filming, and director Baz Luhrmamn thought she looked too young in scenes with Leo. So the role then went to Claire Danes.

I agree with her. It definitely would’ve been redundant. Having both of them together in another movie would’ve been like Romeo and Juliet all over again. It wouldn’t feel right. She definitely made the right decision. No one will ever play Juliet like her again and no one will ever play Rose as Kate did. Good for her.

Kate did 100% justice to that role and fitted the part perfectly. I am glad Kate was the one who ultimately got the role. She is superb sensitive actress.
