But the challenge of a religious life is to respond and identify meaning and purpose in modernity. It cannot wish and pretend it has not happened. Indeed, if God is infinite then His word has meaning that transcends time and by definition must speak to every age. There is little to be gained from "oh it was different in the old days" unless it is to find lessons and meaning for the present.

We need to return to fulfilling one of the core purposes of Nikaah, fulfilling the command of our Rasool ο·Ί, to marry our women to those whom we see good character and righteousness within. If we do not do this, as he ο·Ί says, Fitnah will spread within the land. The point of Nikaah is to build strong foundations for and within the Ummah, and to protect it from Fitnah, where all parties fear Allaah, and love each other and teach each other for the sake of Allaah, enjoining good and forbidding evil. Raising righteous children who uphold family ties and prioritise the Sharee'ah. All of this strangens the Ummah, and a lot of what we are are facing now today, is because we lack taking heed in this aspect of the Deen. Subhanallah. May Allah rectify us and guide is towards goodness and honour. Ameen Allahumma ameen.

Families also used to be abusive and toxic in many cases. Which is why the government HAD to step in, to protect the weaker and more vulnerable individuals, from self-entitled bullies who took all their anger and frustrations our on people they're supposed to care about. Let's not be disingenuous, and act like it was perfect.
