If there’s one hole you want to avoid falling into, it’s Xiaozhai Tiankeng. At 660 meters in depth, a tumble into its depths would be a certain death sentence. However, if you manage to keep your footing, the pit is actually quite beautiful. Better known as The Heavenly Pit, it was formed by either a meteorite strike or water erosion. Over time, the area’s subtropical climate, heavy rainfall, and intense heat ate away at the rock, creating the massive sinkhole we see today. With over 1,250 plant and animal species, it’s very biodiverse. It’s also home to rare species such as the clouded leopard and Chinese giant salamander. If you’re a nature lover and want to visit, we suggest going during the rainy season. While it may be a bit wet, the waterfall that forms from the increase in rain is simply incredible!
