Fun Fact: Beacons are made of glass and obsidian, and function just like the two combined. It enables redstone to go upwards like glass, and does not stick to slime.
Edit: You can also use slime blocks for the wiring and honey for the contraption as the two don't stick, but you can't put redstone on honey because they are not full blocks...

I think the reason, is cuz the honey blocks are so sticky, the redstone power gets stuck inside. Thats also why you cant place items on it, otherwise, youd never get it back

Honey blocks are classified as transparent, whereas slime blocks are solid. It's quite useful actually. (You can't do tons of stuff with transparent blocks, like placing torches)

The reason for all of these is that honey blocks aren’t a full block, as they’re slightly smaller. The only practical thing this does is make it so you can click through the edges of them.
