In the 1950s, a man without any college education, could earn a decent living working on an assembly line, wife could stay home and take care of multiple kids, and they would have enough money left over to take vacations and never really have to worry about money.

Today, in the US, everyone has access to free education, anyone can go to college even if they don't have the money to go, we have access to an unlimited amount of information for free (internet), and many jobs exist that pay a good wage. Cars are far safer today than they were in the past. People are living longer thanks to better medicine. I'd still rather be alive today than in the past. There's simply far more opportunity than at any point ever before in history.
