There's a newly copyrighted genre of literature that crosses between the minimalistic format of a novella and a full length novel, its called 'Ficvella'. I keep setting out to write novellas but end up always with full length novels...

One thing I am constantly debating is how much to reveal TLDR MC accidentally shot his fatherā€™s foot off. Nobody but him knows. Ever since this moment he has been very cautious and safe with guns but he makes a habit out of wriggling out of responsibility. MCā€™s arc is taking responsibility for his actions and allowing himself to grow from them. This culminates in a moment where someone turns his gun on him but MC knows that heā€™s left the safety on. The one secret heā€™s learned from has finally given him a chance. Right now Iā€™m thinking of having the backstory revealed in three different parts 1. Two hecklers at a gas station mention it. 2. He has a bad dream where some of the details are muddled. 3. (Towards the end) He remembers in clarity what he had done. ā€œIā€™ve never been perfect. Iā€™ll never be. But I can be better.ā€ Does anyone find this idea healthy for a story or is this subjectively bad writing?
