The Government of India Act 1935 included provisions for the reservation in 1935. Our Indian Constitution took effect on January 26, 1950. Following independence, the Constituent Assembly, presided over by Dr BR Ambedkar, established the system of reservations. It was first made available for ten years.

The system of reservation existed in India even before independence. Post-independence the system of reservation was framed by the Constituent Assembly which was chaired by Dr. BR Ambedkar. Initially, it was introduced for a time span of 10 years.

kalelkar commission /Ayog
The Commission, popularly known as the Kaka Kalelkar Commission, was required "to investigate the conditions of socially and educationally backward classes within the territory of India and the difficulties under which they labour and to make recommendations as to the steps that should be taken by the Union or any.
The First Backward Class Commission was set up by a Presidential Order under Article 340 of the Constitution of India on Jan 29th, 1953, under the Chairmanship of Shri Kaka Kalelkar (popularly known as Kaka Kalelkar Commission). It submitted its report on March 30th, 1955.
