I was VERY lucky to be able to visit the private Australian Club in Melbourne to look the room of Ellis Rowan botanic panels that were installed there in the 1890's. Ellis Rown was an illustrator and botanical artist and she explored New Guinea on her own in 1916 painting not only flowers but also tried to paint every Bird of Paradise species then known! And what should I find but two panels with paintings of Australian orchid species! A very lovely morning spent in a room very few people get the chance to see!
