People adapt to normal winter weather. We almost never get flooded in Ireland because we expect torrential rain every day of the week. Although Ireland is far to the North of the populated cities of Canada ... the Arctic Circle is only 12 degrees north of Ireland..... the warm Gulf Stream (AMOC) drenches Ireland with rain instead of snow.

Only about 5 years into my 25-year career as a trucker I learned a VALUABLE lesson about being impatient with drivers plowing the roads during winter: It was around 2002. I was climbing Santiam Pass in Oregon, fully loaded & chained up, pulling a refrigerated 53' trailer. I ended up stuck behind a road grader that was plowing snow on the highway, and had to keep dropping gears on my 10-speed manual transmission to keep from getting to close to him, until I began losing traction, and my drive tires began spinning out, soon leaving me stuck in place, unable to move. I got on my CBradio and angrily announced: " This stupid road grader caused me to slow down SO much, I lost traction, and now I'm spun out and STUCK, the glared at it in disgust.
Suddenly, the road grader stopped, and began backing slowly down the steep grade around me on my right, positioning himself directly behind my trailer and began pushing my 18-wheeler forward on that hard-packed, snow-covered highway all the way to the TOP of the overpass at about 10-15 mph, and all I did was steer.
Once he knew I could roll forward again, he just quitly resumed plowing snow like a CHAMP!!🫡😄
As for me? I never criticized or complained about ANY snowplow or road grader clearing the roads the rest of my trucking career. I kept telling myself: Without THEM, nobody is going ANYWHERE 😢😔...so be glad they're NOT letting ANYONE
have to suffer that helpless frustration. MAD RESPECT for ALL of them now
