Them describing what they were going to do to Penelope is what did me in. They could've easily gone the "hot villain with sexy voice" route and they were SO CLOSE and then they deviated and I am SO GLAD because that shit turned my blood COLD. The suitors were genuinely terrifying BECAUSE Jorge wasn't scared to show just how far they were willing to go as a whole. This wasn't just one singular man in charge of blindly obeying hoards. This was a man who was given the voice to show what all of them were about. He was a mouthpiece for their intentions and it was done SO FRICKIN WELL. GOD JORGE YOU'RE KILLING US MAN

Odysseus faced monsters and gods during his voyage, every force conceivable seemingly designed to keep him from getting home or to kill him. Polyphemus broke his heart, Scylla killed his friends, Zeus broke his resolve, Calypso held him prisoner, the Underworld showed him a monster, and Poseidon wanted him dead, just to name a few.
AND YET! It's the suiters who cause us to feel cringe and squirm for the horror they want to unleash, breaking Telemachus and raping Penelope, completely detached from Odysseus.

Anyone else feel like there’s something suggestive about the way Antinous talks about Telemachus sometimes??? Like between ‘hold him down till the boy stops shaking’ and ‘as I slowly break his pride’ and there is just SOMETHING about the way he says ‘wanna entertain me?’ that just… like obviously his main target was Penelope, but it seems like he wouldn’t mind having some “fun” before he got Telemachus out of the way…

I actually like how, in a similar way to how he’s enticing the suitors to enact horrors against the royal family, the listener is also enticed by how well done the song is to forget this song is about innocent people who are about to be horrifically taken advantage of. That’s not to say it isn’t a good song-quite the opposite, in fact-but it’s so well done that you actually get pulled into it like the suitors, only for reality to smack you in the face.

Also imagine Odysseus JUST entering his palace just wanting to see his wife and son again and hearing THIS. No wonder the man went hell mad with rage.
