"Real wine" sounds a lot more uneducated than elitist. I won´t argue on price, 1500 is a lot of money for sure, but as far as "expensive wines" go, it´s not really that steep by comparrison. I do find it interesting that just going by your description, you can´t make out what grape(s) go in it, whether it´s a great vintage, at what point it´s at in terms of maturity, peak or pushing past it.

The truth is that there is no way to justify a $1,500 wine without sounding elitist and a bit ridiculous. Harlan Estate commands the price it does because the supply is so low, each year’s supply is allocated directly to members and doesn’t go to retail, and the people buying these ultra-rare Napa Cabs are people like Silicon Valley billionaires that are willing to pay absurd prices for something they see as a collector’s item more than a bottle of wine.
Obviously the quality is top notch, but probably 80% of the price is due to factors other than the quality of the wine.
