A lot changes in a century, but some things also stay the same. In 2136, people still celebrate the holidays as best they can. There might not be as many conifer trees as there used to be, but someone put together a pretty affordable holographic version, and at least the strings of lights don’t go out anymore. Gift-wrapping technology has also gotten pretty fancy - most people just recycle opened Steel Crates from the Arena, as it turns out you can close them up and twist a plate on the side and they’ll hold together just fine.
The most spectacular new tradition is actually in the Arena itself: a retired combat AI found some peace by adopting the persona of Santa Claus. He’s re-wired his war swarm processing system to track all the Mechs in Mech Arena, all year long. The contestants that fight with honor and good sportsmanship get gifts in the mail on Boxing Day. Other contestants get… well... “gifts” on Boxing Day. It does a fine job of getting all the pilots in the Arena in the holiday spirit. Ji-Yoon (also known by her pilot handle as Nova) has already released a hit single about it. Some things really never change. Happy holidays!
