The point about political prisoners simply is not true. Allot of ordinary civilians in the western regions who were pro russian did suffer persecution during the post 2014 conflict. Also allot of the more far left parties were banned. Im by no means a supporter of russia however I also do not believe this rhetoric that Ukraine is some sort of infallible bastion of democracy. We need to hold our allies to account the same way we hold our own governments to account.
