You get way more smoke if you use a richer mixture. Meaning more sugar. You can do like four parts sugar to one part oxidizer and it'll burn a lot slower and make a lot of smoke. You actually made your mixture quite hot. 50/50 is the perfect mixture

Nice! I’ve been making these for years. ‘Lite salt’ will turn it purple too, and if you can also use a confetti popper (the pull string kind) spliced onto a cotton wick to make a quick ignition. Science!

You can also melt the stump remover in Crayola crayon wax instead of sugar to produce colored smoke bombs. Personally, recommend using yellow, orange and red for a firey color or purples, Pinks, and lime green for a very thick brownish color

15 years ago when I was in middle school my friends and I made countless massive smoke bombs using this method and lab grade potassium nitrate and paper towel tubes. Some of what we did could probably be classified as terrorism, but man did we have a good time. Glad to see the recipient being passed along.

Be forwarned, stump remover is mostly potassium nitrate, which when introduced in the body can cause circulatory and oxygen delivery issues among other issues - so playing in the smoke from this chemical burned is probably not the best idea. Will it kill you? No - not right away, but neither will table salt until you get enough of it in your system.

Just a quick safety thing. Cook this very low and slow. If it gets too hot in the pan, it will spontaneously combust. Also, use a pan you're not planning on keeping. The mixture is 60% potassium nitrate (essentially just stump remover) and 40% white sugar by weight. Have fun!

Just remember that if you overheat the pan it could auto ignite. I lost some eyebrow hairs doing this once.
