Can we just please tackle the biggest culprits of methane gas, like oil and gas systems and landfills instead of primary food sources?? I get it, we’re in a crisis and we should do everything to reduce overall carbon output and greenhouse gas emissions but I think our focus should be on the pollution that results from industrial production not food production.

Rice feed more people than other carbohydrate crops. Flooding rice paddy fields, besides a weed deterrent, also reduces pest and hence pesticides.

There are varieties of rice called upland rice that are bred to grow without flooding. However, flooding is not a strict requirement, as its only purpose is weed suppression. Rice is already a heavy feeder, and will outcompete the vast majority of weeds. If you're growing on a smaller scale, weeds can be controlled by mulching or intercropping.
