Why Pros Rev Match Before Downshifting 🤔? #car #technology

Ever seen drivers blip the throttle while downshifting? That’s rev matching, and it’s one of the smoothest tricks in driving!

Here’s how it works:
When you downshift, your engine speed (RPM) must match the wheel speed in the lower gear.
If not, your car jerks — or worse, shocks the transmission.

To fix that, drivers blip the throttle (rev the engine) just before releasing the clutch — this raises the RPM so it perfectly matches the new gear.

Result: smoother shifts, less clutch wear, and better car control — especially during high-speed or track driving.

It’s pure driving art — smooth, precise, and satisfying to master.

Toe & heel, while left foot clutching. True art of driving

That’s heel toe, an advanced form of downshifting. Not necessary but more convenient than a standard downshift. I’ve been daily driving manual consistently for the past 5 or 6 years, never had to learn to do that.

Yes but the thing is he is pushing the brakes down 100% so they’d lock up. He has the right idea but the brake is being regulated at all with it al the way down

Step 1: have a clutch pedal that doesnt require me to touch the floor with it until it releases.

In NASCAR, that's why SVG overtakes on braking zone because he's faster than others and use clutch. Next gen doesn't really need to do that but, with that, SVG is faster and brake zone is shorter. Others racers are not trained to do that during 2 hours. ❤️
