Memories for me too..My Aunt and Uncle, were the founders and owners of Deal's Famous Oyster House, HWY 98 Big Bend Pandhandle. People would come from all over to eat raw and cooked oysters or some type of fresh seafood. My grandmother cooked in the kitchen. My mother worked there as a hostess, a cook at one time, and shucked raw oysters. I worked as a waitress in my younger years. My uncle and Aunt, along with many others worked shucking the oysters. I ate mine on a saltine cracker with garlic salt and/ or ketsup. I most likely had a splash of Crystal at times too. Oysters were delivered from Apalachicola or East Point, Florida. If delivery could not bring several croker sacks full of oysters, my uncle would go get them.He also sold them by the bushel. After family deaths, the Restaurant is still open after all these years but under different management. The name has remained the same. I dont remember a "shucking thing" like Bruce has but I have eaten my share of oysters in my lifetime. 😅

On our way to my grandparents house in Waveland MS for New Orleans my Pops saw a sign that said 10$ sack of oysters. Followed this old dirt road and these fellas had a truckload of large sacks. We got 3 sacks and it was one of the happiest I’ve ever seen my Pops. It was the late 80s early 90s. Nice memory.
