I really love how this is a conversation between believers and an atheist. It's calm, collected, no one's raising their voices, they're leaving space for each other to talk. I am Christian but regardless of how you feel about atheism or atheists, or christianity and christians, this is what is needed to connect; meeting at the table in a calm way to seek understanding and remember to treat each other with respect and patience since we're all humans.

It is the greater inconvenience, being disliked by the masses, being polar opposites with most of the populous. Not to mention all the countries and cultures in the world that persecute and kill Christianâs simply because they proclaim it. It is in fact so inconvenient that because of the love Jesus has for me, Iâm not compelled and lead to selflessly love the very person who disposes me for my Christianity. I want that person to know the love of Christ. That this world does indeed have meaning and they THEY have a purpose and value.

As always, Cliffs response is great, but I'd go in a different direction. Christianity is true because of a single fact in history; the resurrection. It doesn't factor in at all how good or bad Christians deal with suffering. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks about anything. It only matters that Jesus, God in human form, died and rose again. If that's true, the rest of it is also true. But if that never happened, we are the greatest fools on the planet. Getting into the weeds on some tangent about how someone deals with suffering is a distraction.

Dude reasoned away in his own head all the historical facts in the Bible timeline and the fact that these are eyewitnesses of Jesus, who said he is the son of God and was proved by God via prophecies hundreds and thousands of years before Jesus. If people love their sin, they will not turn to God. Jesus said if they wonât believe what Moses and the prophets said about him, they wonât even believe and turn to God if they see a miracle.

Honestly, I do have the utmost respect to Alex. But I think his suspicion is based on a man who isn't dealing in reality, but indulging in his imagination, based on a need to survive, not a value of building trust for love's sake.
Which, when you think about, what reason could an omnipotent god in need of nothing possibly desire from a fallen people except a reciprocal relationship, which requires--yup, you guessed it: a value of building trust.

The "story" of Christianity is actually true history.
